  41. There's a lot to be said for recording direct to disk. It's not hard to
  42. find cameras (even low-priced ones) that have optics and electronics in
  43. the 700+ line resolution category, but as soon as you go to tape with it,
  44. you lose a lot of that resolution. The minute you record that signal to 
  45. S-VHS or Hi8, you've immediately dropped your resolution to around 
  46. 400-450 lines of resolution. Even Betacam records far less than what many 
  47. cameras put out.

  49. By going direct-to-disk, you're only limited by the resolution of the 
  50. hard disk recording/playback encoding scheme, which is better than many 
  51. tape formats currently in use.
